American Quarter Horses - Stallions - Introduction and history

The horse became widely spread in the range of modern Texas, where cattle driving was flourishing. Powerful built of the body and heavy muscle made the species an irreplaceable worker in the sphere of agriculture and transportation, to say nothing of thriving quarter-mile-racing tradition.

For a long time, there was little certainty about the horse's pedigree, and the breed status of the species was in question until well into the 20th century. The first attempt to trace the animal's pedigree line began at the end of the 19th century by William Anson, a Texan rancher. Robert Denhardt continued the research in the 20th century, and in 1939 he gathered a group of enthusiasts. In 1940 after the 2nd meeting, the American Quarter Horse Association was founded.

Nowadays American Quarter Horses is the world's most versatile breed of horses. Breeders reproduce these animals for arena events, such as barrel-racing or long distance races. American Quarter Horses take part in AQHA-sanctioned competitions, and there are more than a hundred horse-race tracks in the Northern America, where these horses compete in speed and strength.
